Did you guys check out the NRA's response on the 5th? The pic is a head-and-shoulders shot taken from behind, at a moment when the president was hunching slightly, and so emphasized the protruding ears Obama himself has joked about. You don't need a membership in Mensa to figure out the subtext: "This monkey wants to take your guns, America."

Can the NRA really just post this up and people agree/accept it?

For me, the NRA lost all credibility a long time ago.

They are now someone's political tool. They have abdicated their mission and detached themselves from the broader society they used to serve. To the outside observer (in this case, me) it is the functional equivalent of having sold their soul.

It's all dogma now, and they're willing to commit crimes against civility and pragmatism to shore up their front. It's not just that they simplify their message because need to tend their brand and image. They use racism as a tool. They excommunicate heretics - lifelong sportsmen and gun advocates who make public statements that contradict NRA dogma.

So I don't even get to the part where I might "agree/accept" something the NRA says or does. Even when they say things I agree with, I don't care.

You and I know that's bullshit. But little Sally and Joey American doesn't. And they are just being fed anti-gun rhetoric by the media and politicians who roll out victims to use as props for their agendas. That starts tipping the scales in their favor without anything on our side to tip them the other way.

Right NOW... in this environment... I don't see any other course than an eventual... a long ways down the road... ban on guns in the US. I really hope I'm wrong but without something happening to change those young peoples' minds, I don't think I am.

Nah i think pc has run its course for now. People are becoming tired of its nonsense and actually the best thing to happen for the pro gun side in a long time was obama. He may have passed a few worthless items but many people that never thought they would have a gun went out and bought them.
