    The sign said "No Swimming"

This is a Disney resort. There's a pool. There's a playground. It's the Magic Kingdom, and everything is manicured. That beach was built for people to walk on, because people like to walk on a beach.

I think you're being too harsh here. It's a Disney resort, and these people were from Nebraska. Maybe someone from Florida sees that picture and thinks "gator", but most people would see a beach. It was built to look like a beach.

I hear ya on the gorilla. Yeah, it's terrible that they shot the gorilla, but in the moment it was the right call. None the less, both the parents and the zoo got some explaining to do. Lions and gorillas in the zoo aren't animatronic. They're goddamned lions and gorillas. How are you not watching your kid? Also, how is a kid able to just wander in? So seriously, that's a human failure. That's the sort of shit the zoo has to anticipate - oopsing your way into the gorilla enclosure should simply not be possible.

So far, my take on the gator-chomped kid is that it's also a human failure, but not on the part of the parents. Lots of the animals at Disney are animatronic. It's the happiest place on earth! The signs didn't say "DANGER! REAL, LIVE, NON-ANIMATRONIC MAN-EATING ALLIGATORS. WE'RE NOT JOKING."

Neither did they say, "Stay 10 feet from water", or "Stay off Beach", or "Say clear of water". They don't even say to stay out of the water.

    They said "No Swimming".

This is a nightmare for Disney. Safe, happy vacations for families is what they sell. Now, the Kraken ate a toddler.

My guess is that Disney will (a) pay that family a huge settlement as quietly as possible, and (b) pave the 'Seven Seas Lagoon' and put up a Landlubbers of the Caribbean Mini-putt and Bocce Adventure.

If that is the beach, and that is the pathetic little sign they had (in the pic), I'm shocked that there wasn't a fence to keep people out of the water and the prehistoric lizards in the water. Fences can be ugly, but should be part of the design when building in Lizardville. Especially when the widget that Disney is selling depends on family safety......in the middle of a gator infested swamp.

To be honest.....If I were on that beach (and likely well-imbibed), I would have probably not thought twice before I waded in the water. I'm from a place where common sense tells you not to drive under bridges, or through narrow passages on frozen lakes, because that is where the ice is usually thinnest. Lizards that can chomp hockey sticks in half are a bit more rare up here, and aren't common enough to have any sort of sense about.

Do you have any idea how many times i've been to disney? Shit i spent all last month there for work alone. Those signs have a pretty little picture of a gator on them. I've seen them hundreds of times.

My wife was trying to talk me into going scouting for the old parks that closed. I dont need to scout i know where they are but last time i checked thats called tresspassing. On top of that i've seen the gators they relocate on disney property. Its entirely possible they could have a new record holder out there. Shit most of the land is still swamp.

Disney always settles. Christ the magic kingdom alone pulls over 6 million a day in just parking and ticket sales. I dont think im harsh. I just have very little tolerance for stupid.

If what you say is true, then it's Disney that's stupid. You don't build a children's playground right next to an alligator playground.

    You just don't.

I don't care how many signs you put up. "No Swimming" with a little gator icon isn't good enough.

The vast majority of people who go there know dick about gators. Disney doesn't make all the guests sit though a 20 minute gator safety video.

Maybe where you live you dont. Here in florida every body of water can have gators. Thats common knowledge, its talked about, its addressed on disney property. Those signs are all thats needed for someone of even moderate intelligence and all that is required by law. In fact its the same exact thing the state does at its parks.

Then the vast majority of people need to do just a tiny bit of research about florida before planning a trip. Christ how many times have gators and crocs been discussed on tv? You actually have to be retarded to not think a gator in florida water is a possibility. Those same tourist also visit gatorland for fuck sakes.

In fact i dont think i've ever met someone that doesn't associate florida with gators. Now when i was in california there was a rash of pets going missing. I told my wife and her family someone let an alligator lose. 2 weeks later they caught a gator. It makes sense to not know the sings when you are in a state where the animal doesn't live. When i go up north into the woods you know what i never look for? A sign saying bears in the woods. Know somerthing about where you're at. It isn't everyone elses job to bring your retarded ass up to speed. You couldn't even get a lawsuit to be taken seriously down here saying a gator bit you because you went into the water at night like some gigantic fucktard looking for the crown of fucktardism.

Disney gator attack: 2-year-old Nebraska boy found dead - CNN.com

Looks like they found the body. They said there were some puncture wounds but their best guess is that he drowned.

    R.I.P.

EDIT: Damn, I'm way late - Festus had that shit on lockdown hours ago; R.I.P. my internet cred
