Basically you can't make it so it rules out a certain group or race of people unless its something job related. Like having a test to show you can lift 40lb, when it isn't required as part of the job, thus discrimnating against the disabled, seniors etc. And it doesn't matter if its on purpose or not.

So if all the entry exam stuff etc. is testing skills required to properly do their job, then there is no reason to get rid of the tests. If it isn't, then they need to figure out a way to fix it, or they are going to loss some money due to a lawsuit.

here is the entrance testing face of ILEA (Indiana Law Enforcement Academy) http://www.in.gov/ilea/

    Test Standard
    Vertical Jump 13.5 Inches
    One Minute Sit-ups 24
    300 Meter Run 82 Seconds
    Maximum Push-ups 21
    1.5 Mile Run 18 Minutes 56 Seconds

As for the written, let me tell you this, after taking it 3 times thus far (passing it every time) it is VERY specific to skills needed on the job. There is reading comprehension (i.e reading about a scene, and trying to remember what it was you read about it), Facial recognition, and picture recognition.

The standards are fine. If they "cause a minority to fail" maybe that fucker should go back to school and get an education, or give up on the dream of being a police officer. Police officers are a breed within thier selfs, it has nothing to do with skin color, or who you are...it has to do with are you capable of dealing with the job, and being able to do it everyday. It takes a special personality to be a cop, and this I have learned through my pursuit of my bachelors in criminal law.
Those physical standards are a joke! I could be a police officer in Indiana right now with that testing.

And 18:56 is like a the min for a 35 year old female in the air force standard.

I apologize to everyone in advance that I am feeling a little lazy right now and didn't want to trim down the quote. Now on to the comment:

Holy crap Kraker!!! For a second I thought that the exit standards said that you had to run a mile and a half in 16 seconds! LOL. FAIL.

remember...the farther south you go..the fatter you get to be, hence, the increase in mile/track time.
