It doesn't blatantly say we can have guns. First it mentions for a militia which an be of 4 meanings, people which can be of 11 different meanings, and firearm which usually refers to a pistol or rifle by definition.

And they did go to school, thats why they KNOW the most laws are hazy and have loopholes and gray areas. Besides i'd bet half these people everyone thinks are "fucking retarded" can at least read 50+ page legal documents that you probably skim in 5 minutes and sign without knowing exactly what it says.

And for the record i'm against most gun control.
What does that have to do with being fucking retarded? Just for arguements sake rainman could count faster than a calculator but guess what still fucking retarded. On a different point from everything i hear (because i'm not there to verify) they aren't reading the bills to begin with. Thats what the staff is for.

True, though as time progresses the outcome will eventually sway the other way. Eventually everyone will be living in the big city and will have had zero experience with firearms and thus no interest in them as well if never introduced.
That is one of the many reasons we teach kids about guns. Living in the city is one of the best reasons to own guns.....I know I will never go without, and will do what I can to make sure the same is true for the next generation.
I must know, do you really feel that safe with a gun? Not once have I ever thought "man I sure could use a gun to protect myself." I suppose this might just be one of the few difference between Canadians and Americans, but could someone please enlighten this Canadian as to how bad the American cities can be that a gun can be considered something to never be without? I have lived near Detroit for years and know how violent it can get, but most of these crimes are usually drug, gang or in a poor neighbourhood which is not true for most TTPers.
It's just about being prepared. For anything. Be it a random person attacking you, your own government going 1984, or an outside invasion. All of which are highly unlikely, but we are not willing to be the ones left saying "oh shit" when that unlikely event occurs. It's about power of the individual and power of the collective People. Plus, you always gotta be ready for the ZOMBIES!

Also about trust, our founding fathers did not trust the king and did not us to in fact trust the government they were creating completely either. It was more important for the people to be able to fight back than it was to take guns out of their hand (which would have been impossible then and still is now).

Re: USA Today Poll on Gun ownership

I harken back to a very good friend of mine saying........ " Its Better to Have and Not Need Than to Need and Not Have ! " As far as it goes for me I have guns and have had them for the last 30 years and it was only about 6 months ago when I needed to pull one of them for Self Defense. I am Glad I had it.... when the police showed up they asked what happened and I told them I felt threatened and they asked if I wanted to press charges........... I said no because I didn't want it to Progress to having Another incident. So again I'm glad I had my gun when I needed it !

Yep. Have and not need vs need and not have pretty much sums it up, not to mention that shooting (not counting hunting, because I fear that might open up another whole can of worms with a few members of this group) is just plain fun. I've brought countless friends of mine out to my ranch who were either terrified of guns or thought they should be banned outright. A few rounds of trap shooting or getting a nice pattern on paper at 100 yards, and now 90% of them want to come out regularly and shoot, and roughly half of them ended up buying their own later on.

For those of you who get it, watch the Outdoor Channel on Wednesday nights, particularly Shooting USA and Sighting In, which primarily focus on shooting sports. It might help give you a broader opinion of firearms other than the fact guns can be used to kill people.

Honestly I think the government should issue out rifles to every registered citizen.

On a side note dex, if the day came would you shoot to kill when it came to the feds kicking in your door?
