No I do not. It is certainly okay to explain the motives behind cultures, especially during the evolution of a nation. But to say this country was founded solely on the principles of Christianity is comletely wrong. And the representatives of this conference mostly do exactly that. They want to bring christianity back into our history books. Thats fine! But do not lay it out as if it is princle cause of this nation.
+1. And that's coming from a raging born again Christian.

Treat it as if we were learning about the Greco-Roman mythology, or Ancient Egypt.

There is no point in discussing this. You can huff and puff and get your panties in a wad but its not going to change what the BOE does. Well i guess this discussion helps your post counts...that's about it lol

For the record, its not set in stone so to speak. I'm not totally sure that these measures have passed, but are things that a certain group on the BoE WANT to get passed.

Re: Texas Board of Education and the Re-writing of American History

I am against this because there is FAR less evidence that supports the notion of the American War of Independence and the founding of America was Christian based, than for the political/economic reasons.
The one thing that underlies the entire program of the nation’s Christian conservative activists is, naturally, religion. But it isn’t merely the case that their Christian orientation shapes their opinions on gay marriage, abortion and government spending. More elementally, they hold that the United States was founded by devout Christians and according to biblical precepts. This belief provides what they consider not only a theological but also, ultimately, a judicial grounding to their positions on social questions.
I think this says it all.

You must understand what religion is, it’s not just about preaching and converting. It’s about a person’s ethics-morals-principles.

No shit, keep it to the facts and not a subtle indoctrination into the Christian Faith. Combine Youth with Patriotism, and claim Christianity is the cause of the founding of our nation and we'll see nothing but mislead, brainwashed kids with a horrible misinterpretation of American History. This is disgustingly manipulative on so many fronts...
