I'm referring to the debacle that was the "Leave No Child Behind" Act.

I get to teach often as an Army medic. I used to have the Joe's take turns reading out loud parts of medical books as part of my classes. It is never pretty. I would expect that from say someone who has English as a second language, that goes with out saying, if a soldier was raised in China and learned English recently they would have a hard time. These aren't medical books like me as a medic might read, these are books the Army makes for everybody, they are written at a 6-8th grade level and a fourth of these guys get stuck on words like "immediate" "comparable" "priority", not just the pronunciation but the F'n definition. I had a Joe write me a short essay way back when I was a corporal and after a few days asked me for another punishment because he "hadn't written nothing in a while", the dude was like two months out of high school, what he had so far looked like a bunch of mostly connected words with a handful of periods thrown on the page. Literacy standards are so non existent its embarrassing, high school'rs are pushed through and passed because if the school doesn't put up good grad numbers they get in trouble/loose money/abilities are called into question. So they make the standard, did they show up mostly sober today? Passed. I want to see a school system who has no issue telling the dead weight to get out after their freshman year, save the time and money for the people who want to be there.

Great, then what becomes of the % that are tossed early? My guess is they end up being supported either by the state/federal penal system, or the state/federal welfare system. So we can pay to keep them in school, pay to keep them at home, or pay to keep them in jail. Sounds like three great options to me.

Oh, I guess they do have the hope that they could be the lucky one to turn to a life of crime and NOT get caught.

    haha.

Your clever quips do nothing to further your argument.

But how did this evolve into you and your wife choosing to be parents? What does that have to do with anything that we have been discussing? You make vague statements then change the subject and make even more vague statements with ended with smarty comments that don't win debates/arguments.....

On this one issue (:P) I agree with Civil. It is fundamental to American values and the COTUS that parents be allowed to home school their children, and teach/raise them as they see fit, so long as they are not abusive, or neglectful. That is a very core part of a free society.

What happens? Well a lot get 'recruited' by the military to save America in Iraq.
