It neccessary in the process of breaking someone down mentally so they can focus on the job at hand when in combat regardless of whats going on and yes it does work very well. It's easy to say you would have a hard time not laughing until your there. Trust me one little snicker and you'll pay for it. You'll never make that mistake again. The pit are very deep and enjoy company. Not to mention they really go out of their way to come up with new ways of making you hurt. All of which are funny AFTER you leave boot camp.

Yes he did say he needs to make a head call. There are things you do not do in boot camp and as you can tell on is saying you need something. The proper way would have been "Sir this recruit requests to make a head call Sir". If it took him that long to figure out the proper way to phrase it then yes he would be exspected to pee in his pants but not a good idea that would start a whole shit storm he really doesn't want for his remaining time in bootcamp.

I wouldn't laugh in a Marine boot camp, but Air Force boot camp will have you doing thing like picking up leaves.

It is all in the way it was expressed.
What was said "This recruit needs to make a head call"...... emphasizing his need.

What should have been said "Sir, this recruit requests permission to make a head call" no emphasis on personal need, just a simple request.

Also think about it this way, you want someone to get it right the first time when it is a life or death scenario. If you are not disciplined enough to ask to pee the right way, how can they trust you with a weapon system that could potentially kill everyone around you if used the wrong way? How could they trust you to drive a truck full of your fellow Marines down a road at night when you are tired.. How could they (insert other scenarios here)...

The point is to do it right, do it effectively, and don't mess up, even when it seems as simple as just asking to go to the bathroom.

Another point is that your individual needs do not trump those of the USMC and the US as a whole, you are simply a cog in the wheel of the military machine and for it to all work and not have folks die you would have to give up your own selfish needs. "Oh but it is just a guy going to the bathroom." Well the guy using the bathroom holds everyone else up from receiving training if he dilly dallys around, thus wasting money, time and possibly making him or worse the whole platoon miss something they needed to be to.

Discipline really hits home when the punishment for asking to use the bathroom wrong could result in you getting your balls busted in 'the pit' (a large lot of about 2 foot deep sand) where the DIs would make you wish you had never been born.

I've seen several different armed forces basic training, none compare to USMC boot. On a side note, if you complete USMC boot camp you would not have to take any other military branches basic training, they all realize that nothing is as hard as USMC boot.
