It is still about image. If some clerk for espn makes a tasteless joke nobody knows, but if Chris Berman does everybody knows.

Leave that shit for gated communities and townhouses.
Some states do and I am glad I do not live in such states.

I live in a quite little suburb with no crime and no HOA, no cars on jack stands except when I am underneath it changing oil or whatnot.

Rules are rules, if you speed one mile over the speed limit ten times in a day and get 10 tickets for it you better not complain.

I read this and wonder just how large the sign was. Was it fairly unobtrusive? I think the core of the issue is more that what people are allowed to do with their own homes and not necessarily the fact that he is a Marine.

I wonder what kind of shit storm would have started if he had been flying a gay pride flag and they asked him to take it down. ACLU and everyone else would have been up defending him.

The answer would still be the same. Rules are rules.

Oh, I agree for the most part. But sometimes the rules are damn silly. The neighborhood I used to live in many years ago, the HOA started fining one of my neighbors for their yard. The yard was at a neat and acceptable level. What was not acceptable? They had too many clovers in their yard.

    Yea....

    This is the sign:

Doesn't seem all that large. The article said it was placed near his garage. So, I'm thinking he put it on the wall of the house perhaps, next to the garage?

People put stuff up all the time, even in my neighborhood with very strict HOA rules. Decorative things, like this dealio:

Is it really all that different? Now if the guy has it on a pole, cemented into the ground, and like a foot away from the street, I may see why it could be a problem.

    Example:

#1: On the wall next to the garage, shouldn't be a problem.
#2: Sign next to the road, kind of tacky, HOA is mad.

As far as the HOA around here. I get raped in HOA fees, R-A-P-E-D. But, I can atleast see where my money goes to as well. We have really nice parks, superb landscaping, and most people who visit over here always comment on how immaculate the grounds are and how the drive is really pleasant once in the community, which is a good feeling. It's a love/hate thing, because although the HOA here as made a good impression on me, I've heard about so many evil HOAs, local and abroad.
