I don't believe the hype either.

I think the joke is on us, the american viewers. Think about the big picture. Last time it got censored, it was a big stink, where perhaps south park creators wanted to stand up to tyranny and show mohammed. Fine. But this time?

CC didn't add the censor bar over mohammed, in either of the alst 2 episodes. It was animated into the story (otherwise, the scene where tom cruise becomes immune to criticism turning into a censor block wouldn't make sense visually). And the bleeps.....the final speech makes it pretty damn clear the bleeps were also part of the story. CC didn't bleep them...Matt and trey WROTE it to be bleeped. The typical SNL-like gag of beeping an entire conversation as if it's all cursewords, or translating 30 seconds of japanese into "yes, let's fight". Standard humor, especially when the long-bleep was repeated not once, but twice when jesus says "that's right stan, bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep", and then santa clause "that's right, bleeeeeeeeeeeeeep".

So....then why did Matt and Trey make the statement on southparkstudios.com? Why did a "CC official" admit that CC was the one who added the bleeps (saying nothing about the censorship blocks)?

How else can matt and trey have the best of both worlds? They get to maintain their heir of defiance...making it appear as though they "Really did it" and showed mohammed, and only the evil corporate america pussed out.....not them, the creators. And secondly, to avoid being killed by muslim extremists....regardless of how minimal that threat may seem to any of us. Feel free to volunteer to work in the south park mail room if you think such threats are merely jokes.

What is the south park creator's agenda? To look cool, stay relevant, and stick it to the man, right? So...here they get to stick it to the man....CC gets to act like the typical corporate weasel catering to muslim extremism and PC-ness, and matt and trey don't get murdered by extremists....all the while with all of us believing they really WERE going to do it, and aww man, I guess we'll wait till next season. Matt and trey get to appear to stick it to the man, and muslim extremists get to show how ridiculous they are. Everybody wins.

Meaning...the people being made fun of in these episodes...really....were us. The viewers obsessed with silliness like offending muslims and showing mohammed. Such is why Cartman makes the comment "nobody cares about mohammed, people want to know who my real father is"....akward pause....to commercial.

    Exactly. Joke's on us.
Unless I am mis reading your post, I thought it was pretty obvious that the creators of the show censored Muhammad as part of the joke. I do not think it was them trying to cover up that they were trying to show it but didn't. They meant for it to be like that. Personally I do not think that Matt and Trey are trying to "stick it to the man" or anyone, and looking at the history of CC they have always worried about what matt and trey do.

Remember the episode where they said shit like 200 times, CC was worried about that..etc. Pretty much any episode of south park there is some thing between them and CC.

of course. Means nothing about this episode, and then being sissy pants about it.

You are misreading my post. MAtt and trey are saying, straight up, that the version that was played was heavily censored by CC. And I don't believe that. The humor is obviously in the censor bars themselves, and what they mean, figuratively.

A Statement from Matt and Trey
In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it.
They had no intention of showing mohammed, at all (which goes against the whole speech they gave in that boingboing interview or whoever it was with, saying how tragic it was that the western media world sold out the danish guys who printed the images years ago, when normally all media outlets would protect eachother by all running the images...a herd immunity type of protection, where "they can't kill us all" and diminishing the backlash by dispersing it among all media outlets.

Can't make that speech, and then still not show mohammed. And the bleeps......were intentional. Straight up. Who knows about the individual mohammed ones...but the moral of the story speeches....most definitely part of the script.

It does seem to make sense that they put the bleeps in themselves, but then they would show it on SouthPark Studios, instead it says they aren't licensed to play the episode or something like that. Not putting the episode online seems like its going a little far just to make it look like someone else edited the audio.

at least they want to look that way....don't they?

I don't know about you, but if I was an artist...musical or movie or whatever....and my final product was eviscerated prior to production, I'd make a bigger stink (maybe go on Oprah, or CNN/FNC which have been covering this) to tell my story, and how viacom/CC is bullshit, etc.

Interesting they don't do that, but Seth McFarland, last night on Larry King, did.
