    I agree with the ban.

If the underage kid wants to play some game like manhunt then they need to go through their parents.

As long as we have parents like:

Customer: “Someone bought my son this game for his birthday. It’s completely unsuitable! Far too many adult themes!”

Me: “Well, provided you have the receipt, you can exchange it for a more suitable game if you’d like.”

Customer: “Okay, can you show me some games my son would like? Remember, he is only eight!”

    Me: “Sure…”

(I show her a variety of games that would be fine for that age group.)

Customer: “What about this one?” *points to Grand Theft Auto: San
    Andreas*

Customer’s kid: “Yeah mum! I want that one!”

Me: “Erm…I wouldn’t say that is a suitable replacement really…”

    Customer: “Well why not?”

Me: “Well it’s about crime, and there are a lot of adult themes.”

Customer: “But you can have sex and children in The Sims!”

(I tried to convince her otherwise, but in the end she ended up buying GTA for her kid.)
It really isn't going to matter....

The uninformed consumer is also a problem, but I find that parents tend to take things over the top when it comes to protection of their children. It's just like youth soccer, you may be in last place, but "GOOD JOB YOU GET A TROPHY!" I don't think an 8 year old should be playing GTA but the Sims, really? The kids will learn somewhere / somehow, why not educate them in the process instead of trying to shelter them?

Re: Video Game Ban to go to Supreme Court

One problem is our society is so anti-sexual behaviors its pathetic. I can bet there are plenty of parents out there that wouldn't want their kids seeing something that could be construed as sexual, but are okay with movies that are ultra violent etc.

And then if their kid is a fuck-up, they blame the game because "it made Johny evil!!" No, your dumb ass made him evil, take responsibility for being a fucking moron.

Then you get the really stupid parents that join groups to ban violent video games because apparently clicking my left mouse button is teaching me how to shoot a gun! bullshit, I've shot a few guns and NO video game is close to realistic of it.

Still the worst are the fucking morons who think a dirty word or some implied sex scene is going to ruin Americas youth!! Grow the fuck up (yes 40-50 year olds need to grow up). First go to any school ground and you will hear more dirty word then you probably even KNOW, 2nd guess what? SEX IS A NATURAL THING. It happens in nature with most mammals. But no, Johnny seeing a implied sex scene is going to fuck him up, but watching Bruce Willis shoot 40 people, blow up a couple 100 cars, and beat some people up is not going to harm the kid at all.

Why IS our society so squeamish when it comes to sex, which is a completely natural part of life, while murder and violence are somehow considered more appropriate?

That is one thing that has always confused me.

Nudity as well . . . why do Americans care so much about Tits/Dicks "Poisoning our children's minds", but don't look as harshly on violence.

Partially the way our history has been formed. We have not had a major attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor, and even then, there was no troops landing. Before that, it was back during the Civil War. Its been so long since a war has touched on our soil that we don't remember the horror of war. The Germans, on the other hand, have obscene amounts of censorship towards violence, but have incredibly low standards (Compared to the US) about sex and Nudity and Alcohol. The drinking age, age of consent are both 16 in Germany, and they have no problems with kids younger then 16 buying beer or other drinks for the family. But you won't be seeing any violent games or TV shows in Germany...

Yes, but I highly doubt it's heavily enforced anywhere.

    EDIT:

    http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp
Here is San Antonio they really enforce it.
Yeah, I remember in NY they would moderately enforce it... but when I moved to TN you had to be 18 to see rated R movies (I was 17 at the time) and there were cops at every door for an R movie - somehow I still managed to sneak into a few though.
Yeah, maybe they just didn't enforce it much here...lol...I use to see 14 yr olds walk in and they wouldn't say a word.
