Re: Oil to reach East Coast soon?
Well Vaf, I can't speak for the people down in Grand Isle and what not, but in the city (New Orleans) people are mostly concerned about what it's doing (or has already done) to the fishing/seafood industry. And while I'm sure Florida is feeling the effects of this oil spill more drastically via their tourism industry, New Orleans is also feeling the hit a bit via tourism. Especially since one of the main draws of the city, especially the French Quarter, is it's food/seafood.
I mean in all honesty, oil or not, if another Katrina type situation happened again, I'm quite sure the city wouldn't be rebuilt, not to the extent it is now anyways. Maybe keep it a small port or something because of its location. But I assure you if something like that happens again, people aren't coming back. It isn't worth putting up with the same hassel all over again not but 4-5 years later.
For me personally, I don't have any sentimental attachment to the city....or the state for that matter, except for the food, which isn't a deal breaker for me. I would most likely move to Houston or the Dallas area if something serious happened. Most of my family lives in New Iberia or Lafayette anyways...everyone else is out of state (Texas, Oklahoma).Last edited by rock_lobster; 06-07-10 at 08:08 PM.
