Re: Lets talk about God
You might say, in a sense, that the struggle for an atheist is to maintain their atheism. For most of us here, we were raised to the christian faith in some form or another.. I began baptist, in my early 20s I became born again and followed that faith. Then I saved myself and became an atheist.. but the thought of religeon has been so ingrained since birth that it is sometimes hard to maintain.. simple things like the stuff we say... something comes as a relief, what do we commonly say? "Thank God." .. something makes us angry, "God, damn it." .. hell "God bless you." when someone sneezes. I still say all those thing.. why? Mostly because it sounds tacky and contrived to say anything else.. "Thank ___" .. and what of sneezes? Just leave them hangin? I was raised to be polite, so "bless you" still comes out... k.. granted it pretty much comes out "gableshew" .. but the saying is stillt he same.. and what right do I have to invoke god when I believe there's no being higher than myself?
So it is a struggle.. perhaps not in the sense that Cyanide means, but a struggle all the same.

Re: Lets talk about God
Why is it a struggle for those of us that don't believe? Are you of the opinion that, being aware of our lack of religion, we feel strained and pressed because of that lack? That's... inaccurate, to say the least.
Why do I need to find religion? I'm of the opinion that organized religion causes ten times as much harm as it does good. Believing that there's a higher power out there watching out for you is one thing, and I have absolutely no problems with people who believe in that kind of thing. But I've got issues with organized religion, especially when it tends to cause a whole lot of really, really bad shit over something as idiotic as "my god could totally beat up your god!"

Re: Lets talk about God
Ahh, but where is the reason in your truth?
Logic trys to FIND truth. Without reason behind the statement God is truth then it is not logical. People could just say that that statement is an opinion. Hell, some people might believe that clouds are the truth. Does this mean they are right without evidence? No.
God isn't logical and never has been. That is what makes god a good excuse to use. Cause you know, God did it.

Good Lord people
I believe...in God and Science. I do not think that they are mutually exclusive at all. in fact, I do not even think that they are relevant to each other. One is tangible, the other is not. That does not change. Nor does it change anything for the scientifically minded person to be able to feel the "tangible" facts/evidence/results of their studies. Nor does it change anything for the theologically minded person to be able to feel the "intangible" benefits/peace/comfort of their studies.
To all people of the opinion that "I am right and can prove it", or "You're wrong because you can't prove it." You are all pissing into the wind
