Wrong. If you take away the religions reason to sell the masses into fighting then another 'reason' just gets gets made up. Like convincing your population that your enemy is sub-human (or that you are super-human). Or that taking their land is your 'historical right'. Or, or, or....
There are so many reasons that people in power can use to sell wars to the populace. Take away religion and nothing would change.

Honestly - people (most living organisms for that matter) are competitive and if left unchecked would starve out and kill off all other competitors. It happens all the time. War just happens to be Humanity's word to describe that. But in the end, war is simply one groups idea of survival and their right/desire to control something/someone else. Religion is simply a tool that gets used in some of those circumstances. Absent that, as Arreo stated, there would just be another "reason to go to war."
