Well, the current proposal wouldn't fix the issue at all, since it's just public health insurance. I personally do think that a true public system would work better than our current one. I think that health, like roads and schools, is a system best left not subjected to market forces.

But it will be subjected to market forces. Just like roads and schools the entire thing is backed by the lowest bidder and built by the lowest bidder. Thats how are government works. It's not like they are going to be actually doing the work most of it will be sent out to other companies.

In the end, it's a step in a direction I want to see. Ten or Twenty years from now, we'll have a UHS, and while the rich will pay more, the income that it will come out of will be disposable income. Not the income you need to eat or shelter yourself with, but excess.

As for balancing the budget, I suggest we nick tax-cuts first. After all, that'll increase revenues and eliminate 30% of our deficit. Then worry about the other things. Sorry that you can't have more services for lower taxes. Or you can't fight wars and lower taxes.
