Ban of import sales of M1 rifles from S. Korea
Someone posted this on one of the military rifle collectors websites I frequent. Sounds like a lot like the old excuses that were given from the Clinton era gun bans.

For reference the M1 Garand has an internal magazine that can hold 8 rounds fed by a stripper clip and can only be effectively reloaded after all 8 shots are fired. It is a highly collectible rifle and is used in most military shooting matches.
The M1 Carbine fires a slightly larger than pistol round that was really only made for it alone (no other weapon I know of fires it) and is loaded by an external magazine. Standard magazines that were issued with the rifle were 15 and 30 rounds in capacity.
High capacity magazines are currently sold for larger caliber weapons that are manufactured and purchased here in the US, but for some reason if they are brought back from South Korea this makes them dangerous..... Current cost of ammunition for the M1 Carbine is around $20 for 50 rounds, not even cheap like the AK-47 semi autos sold and assembled in the US that use 30 round magazines as well.
Dumb.

"Asked why the M1s pose a threat, the State Department spokesman referred questions to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. ATF representatives said they would look into the question Monday afternoon, but on Wednesday they referred questions to the Justice Department. DOJ spokesman Dean Boyd referred questions back to the State Department."
lol'd
Like stated in the article, if their logic is based off high capacity magazines, then why isn't every single gun that uses a magazine under these same restrictions?
Take for example the Glock 36, it can take a magazine up to what, 30 rounds? Ridiculous.
