Re: Sometimes I just outright HATE human beings.........
Tell me, how many cows do we kill every year? How many sea-food products do we eat every year?
Is it wrong because they're cute? Because they're mammals? (No...we eat mammals) Because they are intelligent & social?
I dont disagree that this is disturbing...but the modern western world's slaughter houses for cows, pigs, sheep, lambs, calves, chickens, etc are pretty disturbing too.
Problem is that courtney cox doesnt have any friends that are cows....thus they get no such dramatic PSA or documentary.
Selective moral outrage fueled by emotional heart-strings.

I saw a documentary on it, and much of it can be traced back to the show Flipper, which brought about a rise in the popularity of dolphins, and their demand at resorts and zoos. This has, I think, significantly increased the number that they catch in these drives.

I think the difference is that cows, pigs, sheep, goats and chickens are farm raised if that could be done with dolphins I might eat a steak or two. I know their all cute and cuddly and shit but when I go fishing and they show up you can forget about catching shit where's the Japanese when you need them?

Easy. I own and love 2 dogs. I don't own or love any dolphins. My emotional heart-strings were tugged by the dog story, and they are tugged by these.
I am not belittling anybody, man. Please show me where I did.
I did say this though...
I dont disagree that this is disturbing...Last edited by Consultant; 09-05-10 at 06:32 PM.

Most of those hotels and resorts that advertise swimming with dolphines are part of a boat trip into the ocean where dolphines are known to congrigate not in the hotel pool. Sea world does not get their dolphines from people that caught dolphines. They get them from when injured dolphines are found. Just like the manatees they have were all injured. Some with injuries that would make it almost impossible for them to survive in the wild now. Those that are 100% healthy are born in captivety and remain there.
However i would have to agree with civils post as well to a point. Where we would see things differently is what we eat we have the ability to raise more of in a fairly short amount of time. Whales and dolphines in the wild just like any other animal can be hunted to extinction if left unchecked. For example caspian tiger, african elephant, snow loepards, sea otters, and the list goes on but you get the point. Unchecked hunting or inabailty to farm raise animals can destroy an entire species.
