I agree with what you posted Pote. My wife did not graduate due to her mother being diagnosed with breast cancer her junior year but she has been to countless classes, expos, training classes and done a massive amount of study on her own. She is 3rd in command within her organization.
And thats what my program is teaching me, a little of the know how, and a little of the why.

Thats a really impressive achievement for your wife nuck. Seriously, my hat is off to her. Even though Im going through the traditional 4 year institution, I am a strong advocate of nontraditional modes of information acquisition. I would argue that with the rise of forums, (web 2.0) collective knowledge management and aggregation, people can learn just as much, if not more, by letting their fingers do the walking while on Google, Wikipedia, etc.

You also have to keep in mind that she is 36 so she has years as lower level IT. Her last job was Director of Information Technology. She was hunt down by her current employer.

According to statistics 5% of janitors have a bachelors or higher. Surprising stats to me.

Just read this on Gizmodo: Why Did 17 Million Students Go to College? - Innovations - The Chronicle of Higher Education

I though of this thread when I saw it since were talking about the importance of college.

IT may be the exception to the rule of college being a requirement. I have had a quite successful IT career with no college degree. I am currently sitting as high in the food chain as possible while still actually doing technical work.
