Re: Comedian Stephen Colbert testifies before US Congress
This is why they called him:
Fallback Position - Migrant Worker - Zoe Lofgren - The Colbert Report - 9/22/10 - Video Clip | Comedy Central
Fallback Position - Migrant Worker Pt. 2 - The Colbert Report - 9/23/10 - Video Clip | Comedy Central
He was one of only 16 people to take up the challenge to experience a day in the life of a migrant worker.
The testimony was pretty funny, though.
And some questioning.

Re: Comedian Stephen Colbert testifies before US Congress
With Congress's approval rating at an all time low, the economy in (or...recently out of) a recession, unemployment at nearly 10 percent and a couple wars going on, I'm thankful that the geniuses in charge decided this...this would be a good way to spend some valuable law-making time. But hey...he painted a lovely caricature of republicans before the democrat dominated congress. Yes, bring in the court jester...why not. We have nothing better to do.
What a bone-headed decision this was...

Stephen Colbert appears before Congress... in character.
[source]
Basically, he has a segment on his show called "fallback position", where he does other jobs for a day or so. I'm not exactly sure why he has to appear before Congress, but it probably has something to do with him working with some migrant workers..
hilarious, though.
He seems like a nice guy from my experiences with him. He is a bit quiet though.[/]

Re: Comedian Stephen Colbert testifies before US Congress
CONGRESSWOMAN JUDY CHU: Mr. Colbert, you could work on so many issues, why are you interested in this issue?
COLBERT: "I like talking about people who don't have any power. And this seems like some of the least powerful people in the United States are migrant workers who come and do our work but don't have any rights as a result. And yet we still invite them to come here, and at the same time ask them to leave. And, you know, whatsoever you do for the least of my brothers, these seem like the least of our brothers, right now. And I know that a lot of people are the least of my brothers because the economy is so hard, and I don't want to take anyone's hardship away from them or diminish it or anything like that, but migrant workers suffer, and they have no rights."
and
COLBERT: "Maybe we can offer more visas to the immigrants who, lets face it, will probably be doing those jobs anyway. And this improved legal status, might allow immigrants recourse if they are abused. And it just stands to reason to me that if your co-worker can't be exploited, you're less likely to be exploited yourself, and that itself might improve pay and working conditions on these farms, so that eventually, Americans may consider taking these jobs again."Last edited by hawgballs; 09-25-10 at 01:56 AM.

Re: Comedian Stephen Colbert testifies before US Congress
I am insulting Congress for not doing their job and watching comedians and pundits; however cerebral and enlightened they may be. Notwithstanding, I am doing this at work while not doing my job.
I thought he made a lot of great points despite whatever glorious qualifications he has.
Meh... Most of what he said was nearly a ten on the no-shit scale anyway right?
