Re: Local Texas Banks refund overdraft fees
I have no sympathy for the ignorant and stupid.
The poor is a different category.
Its like the people who call my company up, I tell em they need a deposit based on their credit then what makes things more interesting is they dont have checking account or credit card.
Which I really want to ask the question: "How many banks and credit card companies did you screw over?"
I mean shit get yourself one of these preloading debit cards for christ sake.
If I have cash in my pocket its rare.
I remember its been almost a year since I had a hundred dollar bill in my pocket, its been almost a month since I had $20 dollar bill.

Re: Local Texas Banks refund overdraft fees
Yes it is your fault. It is your responsibility to know when you have availability of funds on a deposit. The bank clearly makes this known. I'm assuming the example you gave is a hypothetical because it really doesn't make sense. In this scenario, unless there was something wrong or appears to be wrong with the funds you deposited, you would have had availability either Monday or Tuesday (depending upon when deposited). In that case your balance would have been $300 provided you had no other offsetting charges to your account. Regardless, it is your fault. Now are you saying the check you deposited didn't have funds? Well, yes it is still your responsibility and something you would need to take up with that gave you the $200 deposit.

If you need funds asap. See if your bank based on your account history with cash the check first then deposit the check as cash which would be available asap versus check traditional 1 to 2 day turn around time on average.
I think in Economics class in high school. The should basically have a Personal Banking 101. Prepare people, if dont pay attention at that point or your momma or daddy didnt teach you then your screwed."And the hits just keep on coming." - Tom Cruise, A Few Good Men

Re: Local Texas Banks refund overdraft fees
100% agree a class on Personal Banking 101 should be a requirement. Bank accounts can really become dangerous for those that don't have a clue on how to manage money. Especially the combination of checks and debit cards have gotten many, many people in deep financial trouble.
And momma and daddy teaching you - hell, many of them don't have a clue on bank management either.
