got kids?
I use a lot of technology in the parenting of mine. Tight browser controls through my proxy filter, tight file permissions on my file server, good password policy on my domain controller at the house, tight phone controls.
My kids watch what I allow and are unable to (at least at my house) watch what I do not allow. They are only able to go to websites that I whitelist. They are only able to access files I allow. I am sure they hate having an IT-enabled father, but too bad. Is that letting those companies who's technologies I leverage raise my kids? I feel like I am doing it myself. I started doing all this when I realized that my views on what was appropriate for the kids was vastly different than what you may get on a game rating label, a movie label, or a tv rating.
For example, I completely disallow most Bugs Bunny and all Tom and Jerry. Bugs displays horrible firearm handling habits and I want my kids to respect firearms and use them properly. Tom and Jerry is nothing but senseless violence with no redeeming quality. On the other side, I am far more likely to allow them to watch something that has some brief nudity, if it is not gratuitous. We watched the original Clash of the Titans a few weeks back with all three of my boys and the couple of scenes that were filled with boobs did not even get extra notice from my guys. Other parents may prefer to allow the violence instead of the boobs for their kids. Everyone has to raise their kids the way they see fit. I would never presume to say I know how to raise your kids better than you do.
But we do live in a high tech world and parents would be stupid to not take full advantage of the high tech tools that are available for them. That may require some investment of time and researching what works best for you, but that is what parents are supposed to do.Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

Harsh. Im glad you weren't my father! You gotta give your kids more credit than that...bugs bunny isn't going to make them trigger happy. But then again, who am i to tell you how to raise your kids.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy Shead to head, chest to chest, which country is the very best? and in the land of rape and honey, you pray.

Re: Apple patents 'anti-sexting' technology
I would agree whole heartily if Apple was enforcing this on all of its users (which honestly I'm surprised they are not, that would SO be an Apple type ass move). Your example is the MPAA making the decision for EVERYONE, not allowing those that want to see the uncensored version. Apple is making it an option for those that chose to use it and an option where those that don't want to don't have too.
That is a HUGE difference to me between adding a tool for you to use and doing the censoring for you whether you want it or not. Yes Sit down and talk to your kids and make use of the tools that work best for you and your family.
