Thread: Vets stand guard over Christian flag in NC town

I think the best option is to privatize the memorial...otherwise, the Christian flag and the statue of the soldier before the cross should go if privatization doesn't happen.

Hm this is really tough. I know about the seperation of church and state, but where do we draw the line? Should it be absolute, or should it be lenient. Too lenient and seperation of church and state becomes completely pointless. not lenient enough and it risks being seen as 'anal'. Then again, is anal necessarily bad? I am unsure of the situation right now, I see both sides and they all are equal in merit right now.

You're free to practice any religion you want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Having the flag and memorial as part of a local government owned property infringes on the rights of others, which means those who aren't Christian.

Vets getting involved lends a fake air of legitimacy to the whole thing. As if it suddenly becomes OK to break the law b/c someone's a vet. Ridiculous.

Since when is enforcing the law of the land considered anal?

Good question. Either way, he's breaking the law and should be punished.

He's protesting, which he has a right to do. The lawbreakers would be those of the local government.
