British Airways Boss Slams US Security Requests
British Airways Boss Slams US Security Requests
LONDON (Oct. 27) -- The chairman of British Airways has launched a scathing attack on the "completely redundant" airport checks requested by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and urged the U.K. to stop "kowtowing" to American demands for ever more security.
BA boss Martin Broughton's comments reflect a growing frustration among airport and airline owners, as well as the traveling public, with the steady build-up of rules covering everything from footwear to liquids following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
British Airways Boss Blasts 'Redundant' TSA Airport Security Checks
Its about fucking time. Maybe this is the start of putting things into perspective.

On a flight to the US one time, after de-boarding the plane in Orlando, we had to take off our shoes and go through security just like when you board. Just retarded.
Did they honestly think that someone fashioned a show bomb while on the plane and were waiting until landing in order to detonate at the airport?

Read the article first before you comment.
The person being interviewed cites an example whereby a passenger is asked to take a laptop out from his bag even though current scanners can detect explosives while the laptop is still in the bag. While it may not take a great deal of time for just one passenger, if you multiply times many passengers it adds up to a lot of wasted time.
Also, if you've ever flown international, you'd know that security can be a big time waster.

Someone on a blog made a great point, apparently more then 3oz of liquid=we'z all gonna die!! but a spare laptop battery? Nah not an issue at all
Something a bit wrong there?
another wtf one on how "secure" we are: http://www.schneier.com/news-072.html
last edit, as this is a great point on the liquid rule:
I was returning from Denver and I had a mostly used tube of toothpaste in my plastic bag. It was probably at least 80% used up. However, the tube itself was 4.2 ounces. So the TSA agent confiscated it. Again, nothing against her. She was just doing her job! The problem I have with this one is the lack of logic. It wouldn't have been a problem if I had 3 or 4 or 5, 3 oz full tubes of toothpaste as long as they fit in the bag. So the problem doesn't seem to be with the amount of liquid as much as it does the size of the container Which still by the way fit very comfortably in the one quart bag with plenty of room to spare. How does this make us more secure? I won't even get into the fact that a group of evil doers could all bring their one quart bags on board and mix their evil formula together as a group. So yeah, let's have a limit! The limit should be the one quart bag and that's it. If you fit all the liquids you want to bring in that bag, you're set!Last edited by Red_Lizard2; 10-27-10 at 06:03 PM.

Wasn't there a Saturday Night Live Episode about this a few years back? At one point the trainee security guards ask: So what happens if we take a bunch of 3oz bottles and combine them all on a plane?
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

The whole thing is a joke. I took the time to melt and mold exlax into a hershey bar and put it in the wrapper. That was just to pull a joke on someone. Now imagine what can be done by someone taking things seriously. Then you have to take into account those security check points haven't caught anyone. With them the people have still been on the planes when caught.

one site I was reading, said apparently you can bring frozen liquids on so long as they are frozen solid (no ounce limit)
My favorite was the "OMG must add more security and these more intrusive scanners etc." after the Christmas day bombing attempt. The thing EVERYONE seemed to miss in that case is......more U.S. airport security doesn't do SHIT to stop someone that boarded in Amsterdam and never once landed in the U.S. until after he attempted to blow it up.
With the liquid rule right now, someone could take (it depends on the size of bottles etc) up to (at least) 60oz of liquids so long as they are in individual 3oz or less containers. Yet 4oz of honey has to be checked or tossedLast edited by Red_Lizard2; 10-28-10 at 09:04 AM.
