What sucks is that they are fired with a fantastic retirement, health and general benefits package. All the bastards have to cut is one term in office. Shit. Then, once they retire (later in life), they will get the fattest checks till the grave.

It is bullshit. What used to be a voluntary job has turned in to a damn business. We need term limits on Judges, House and Senate. We also need to trim the retirement perks way down. In fact, they should be trimmed to that of a soldier, cop or school teacher.

And Brown takes the governorship over Whitman. And Barbara Boxer stays in too.

And thankfully Prop 23 failed. Earth triumphs!

Prop 19 didn't do too bad... It will pass in a few more years.

Supreme Court Judges already have a term limit: 1

The term just happens to be lifetime.

Found this either humerous or sad, apparently at the GOP party in AZ, they introduced and had Fife Symington there.

Re: 2010 Election Results Mega Thread

I will say, despite as much as I complained about some of the bills passed by the Democratic Congress for not being liberal enough, they were the most productive and effective Congress in a long while. They put the well-being of the nation above politics, and shit got done. Hell, they even cut the deficit that some here like to bitch about. They burned all their political capital, but it was damn worth it.
YouTube - What the Democrats Have Done -- Vote November 2nd

The majority of the losses here were the Blue Dogs, not the progressives. The Blue Dogs make up 21% of the current caucus, but suffered 51% of the defeats so far. That's very telling. Let's wait and see what happens in two years. Republicans say they will repeal health care reform, but that won't happen. They say they will cut spending, but not one of them can ever say what they will cut, so that won't happen. They say they want to reduce the deficit, but all their plans so far will increase it more. Are they stupid enough to force a government shutdown? We'll see. In 2012, with a Presidential election and increased turnout, we'll really see where we stand. Just as easily as they were swept into power, they can be swept out.

This could very easily be 1946 all over again, and I see the parallels. In 1946, the Democrats were coming off massive majorities in both the House and Senate. Roosevelt and the Democrats had done a LOT during their run. Truman takes over with the majorities, and he has a rough going in the beginning. He has low approval ratings, and in 1946, the Democrats lost 54 House seats and 11 Senate seats. They were beaten back after expelling all of that political capital. What happens in 1948, a mere 2 years later? Truman campaigned on the "do-nothing" Republican Congress, and goes on to defeat Dewey quite handily. The Democrats pick up 75 House seats and 9 Senate seats, regaining control. Of course, like I always say, a lot can happen in two years, so we'll see...

Republicans easily could have won 2-3 more Senate Seats if they didn't run Bat-Shit crazy candidates.

Well, the repubs got 3 months to turn it all around. That's 3 months to bring unemployment back to pre-recession levels and balance the budget. That's how much time everyone gave Obama before they started whining. This is gonna be fun and I don't want to hear any excuses because I'm going to put the search and quote function to wonderful use.

So far a write-in is beating Joe Miller in Alaska. Wow they were saying a bunch of Miller supporters signed up as write-in candidates because Alaska supreme court allowed voters to see a list of write-in candidates (to bury Murkowski's name)

Re: 2010 Election Results Mega Thread

It all goes back to the Town Hall revolts from 2009. I highly doubt we would be where we are had the Dems paid attention during that period.

Drunken on power, they mocked constituent anger, blamed Dick Armey, labeled it Astro-turf, and missed the writing on the wall.

It allowed Conservatives to run on a message of no, as there wasn't much in terms of a substantive platform other than look at what the Dems are doing to our country.

    And here we sit.
