Bottom line, his case shares the same thing as the other two... a massive deceleration zone. There are no freak incidents where people hit solid ground and live. It doesn't matter whether you're going 60mph or 120mph... solid ground kills. Crush zones save. The ground does not crush.

Tell that to the guy that fell 47 stories. The scafolling he was on completely destroyed. His brother or brother inlaw dont remember which dead on impact. Yet he made a full recovery. You can try to justify the means of why but you cant. People fall down flights of steps, ladders, tree stands and die. By all rights everyone of them should be dead.

Yes, they are lucky.... but the luck is that they had the right thing in front of them. Luck doesn't make two people react differently to the same conditions.

And actually it's more of a bounce than a splatter. Though sometimes it's a bit of both.

    How high cliff?
    How shallow water?

I've jumped from 20 feet into 4 feet of water. Just land in sitting position. Water smacks the hell out of your thighs and ass, and you WILL bottom out. Not recommended, but I was young and stupid. Did it many times.

I've also jumped from 35 feet into 10 feet of water (and bottomed out feet first).

And about 70 feet into 30 feet of water (and thankfully never bottomed out, but damn near couldn't find the surface).

Young and stupid for all of those.
I dont remember all the details i was pretty young at the time but he was a pro. I pretty sure it was 120 ft dont know the depth of the water he was going into but there was a little jet up in the terrian. Well he found it. I spent most of my times in pools using high dives and still found bottom more then once. So i've only cliff dived a couple time myself. Some people get a rush out it and it didnt do anything for me. As for sky diving i had that opportunity in the Corps and turned it down. I'll repell from a helo but i draw the line at jumping out of a plane that still works.

They could have sent that slot to the grunts. It is a much wanted and needed school, why would you pass on that opportunity? I have never met a Marine that would pass on jump school......

I had no use for it. I knew then i had no desire to sky dive so why waste the seat. Dont get me wrong if i had to i would of without question but i was asked not told. I also turned down navigator on c130's when i was in a school. That one was more about my capabilites. I asked prior to turning it down if i would have to take a gforce test and was told yes. I cant sit on a bar stool and spin without getting fucked up. So a g force test was out of the question.

Its an inner ear thing i could get it fixed with a small surgery but i figure it doesnt bother unless im doing shit like that so why bother. Altho i have been letting it keep from scuba diving so i have been thinking about getting it done. Vacations kinda suck. By the time the plane lands i cant hear for a week but if they wanted me to know something they can write it.
