Re: Energy Committee Chairman Candidate Says God Promised no More Catastrophic Climat

If you are so concerned about Harry Reid not having his silly statements publicized, then by all means start a "silly Harry Reid sayings" thread. You, entered this thread and the first thing you do is call me out for calling him a "fucking kook", after you actually do apologize for his position and rationalize why he is even in office.

So please forgive me for assuming that you are apologizing for him and trying to deflect the attention from him and towards Harry Reid. And also please forgive me for assuming that you are a Republican, I don't know what I was thinking coming to that conclusion. Maybe I was wrong to base that on the absence of any type of attack on any Republican that is as equal as the consistent attacks that you make towards Democrats. As well, I shouldn't have thought that you were defending a bible quoting republican by automatically pointing a finger towards mundane Harry Reid.

Maybe what this guy in the video said wasn't crazy maybe just stupid like Harry Reid stupid and not crazy like Moses and End of Days stupid. We have no shortage of stupid in this world.

As for his claim that God said the world couldn't be destroyed; well I guess it depends on the level of destruction and what the varying levels of "destroyed" are. Personally, I don't think that humanity can "Destroy" the Earth either. Can we make it uninhabitable? We probably can. We are, after all, the smartest creatures on the planet (and the known universe at this point) and specialize in finding solutions to vexing problems and attaining the unthinkable. So there is some truth to his claim in the overall physical totality of the planet. There is also truth in the counter-claim that the Earth being made uninhabitable is synonymous to its destruction. But, it all depends on what the definition of is is and which syLlAble gets the inFLUence

All in all, unless he starts crafting policy based on this particular belief, I think that this might be much ado about nothing.
There's a big difference in scale difference between this guy's and Harry Reid's craziness. Harry Reid said that there aren't any racist Democrats, which is wrong, and a bit crazy, but he didn't say that there are no racist democrats because an alien came down and presented him with a holographic cube that told him so.

And he's not saying that we can't destroy the earth (you're right, even after a nuclear holocaust, the earth, and maybe life, would still exist), but he's clearly talking about making it uninhabitable. It's a discussion about global warming, and nobody has ever claimed that global warming is going to literally destroy the Earth as a planet.

But really, even if he, for some reason thought that the earth was more resilient than modern science understands it to be, and he wanted to make that argument, that wouldn't make him crazy. It's the fact that he feels (rightly so) like he can get up there and quote fairy tales as if they were facts, as evidence against the scientific consensus, that makes him a lunatic. Whether or not you believe in God(s), there never was a global flood. Him quoting that is exactly as credible as if he were citing Lord of the Rings.

Well, of course not. The Democrats in that book are total racists, it would have destroyed his point.

Where did I apologize for him? I said, "I don't think that this guy is going to "get a pass" if his ideas are that krazy and the basis for policy decisions." I then go on to say, "if it appears that he is, in fact - not assumption, basing policy positions on some half-cocked idea then I'll be right there with yall complaining about it." So, where am I apologizing for him or excusing his behavior?

I "called you out" (lol btw - this is me calling - jeez man, grip need one) because your language here, and in almost all other posts, is needlessly inflammatory and uttered with the utmost contempt for anyone who happens to have a position that you disagree with or that runs slightly counter to your worldview. We are all going to disagree Hawg. We're going to disagree often. However, we don't have to "kill each other" over those disagreements. Your problem, especially on these forums, is that you seem to have no concept of propriety in terms of discussion or debate. You might have once, long ago, but if so it is sorely missing from the vast majority of your recent posts. I've seen you write some very intelligent posts before. However, most of them in recent months (the last year if memory serves) have been the digital equivalent of grenade tossing. You come in, attempt to tweak someone's nose for no better reason than to do it. That's pretty weak. So, this is me telling you (whether you want to hear it or not) that you can post better than you do and use your mind better than you do. But until you do, people will (more often than not) think you're trolling all the time.

    As for your other points:
Where am I consistently "attacking" Democrats? I've said in this forum, and in the OTS prior to it, that politics and politicians are all (100% for those math challenged individuals) pieces of steaming offal (don't think I've used that particular phrase before though). With that said - the party that has been "running the show" for the majority of TTP/TPG history since 2005 has been the Democratic party. Let's see, I arrived here in Paradise in early/mid 2007. Dems still firmly in control of things then too. So, with that said - there hasn't been a lot to bitch about by Republicans since not a lot of it made it through. But lets just run down a few of the "republican bastion" ideas shall we?

Patriot Act - stupidity - shouldn't have happened. I think I might have said the same thing a time or two in here.
    hmm
    TARP - consummate stupidity.
You care to throw up some others so I can weigh in, or would you rather make unfounded accusations?

You seem to have me confused with someone who can't see all three sides of the coin (and the ridges along the sides of many of them).

You make it out to be as if I were some "Republican, Bible-Thumping, fill in the blank fill in the blank" and that is about as far off base as you can get. I've taken positions an a great number of things that fell on the left or right side of the argument.

I have never been a republican. I am not a particularly religious person. My beliefs, though, are my own. I don't proselytize or preach. Nor am I asking others to do so. But, your repeated position (which you make abundantly clear through your writing) that someone is automatically less intelligent or beneath you intellectually because of their belief is the peak of ignorance and says a great deal about you. And whether you are listening or not, a lot of other people are. They see it. You should look inside yourself. Perhaps it might have something to do with your avatar. Who knows.

But, really....I love a good debate and discussion. The back and forth is phenomenal. You should try it sometime instead of just being the instigator.

Ah, but Harry Reid has said that there are no illegals working in Nevada. Maybe other places. But definitely not in Nevada. So, I'll grant you that it wasn't "Lord of the Rings" that gave ole Harry that insight, but I do wonder what "fairy tale" he read that in.

Do you really not get it? After all the talks we have had? After all the temp site bans? I like you, I really do, not just saying that for posterities sake, but it's not that people don't like the way you post it's that with the way you post you drop your true intelligence level from a high level to a perceived level of about 4. You have the ability to carry on an intelligent conversation, but in most cases you choose the fuck you, fuck your family, fuck your world approach, and it gets old. Some friendly advice, keep the punches above the belt, even if your opponents are more of a retard than Rain Man, and you will earn a lot more respect around here.

As for the OP the guy is an idiot, but so is Pelosi for saying we need to pass bills so we can read them and figure out what they say. So is the guy that said Guam was about to tip over because it is overpopulated. So are many other politicians who open their mouths. Unfortunately intelligence and common sense are not requirements on the job application.

Right, that's obviously stupid and crazy. That would be akin to this guy claiming that there was no evidence that we could make the world uninhabitable, which would also be crazy and stupid. The fact is though, that Reid didn't cite a fable to support his case, and that makes all of the difference here. If Reid had cited LOTR, or the Necronomicon, or whatever, then he'd have been laughed off of stage. Only because it's from the bible does it get a pass.

No, I'm sorry, but saying something stupid or something that you disagree with is way, way different than citing a fairy tail as if it were fact. If you can find even one modern non-religious example of this, I'll be really, really impressed. On the other hand, there are mountains of examples coming from religion. If Pelosi said that she couldn't read the bill because it would raise the evil spirits of Dumbledorf, then you'd have an argument.
