Re: I wish this was a sad parody...
"I would have never started watching Fox News if it wasn't for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind." - Byron Williams
Beck's rhetoric directly led to an attempted terrorist attack. What other prominent news person can lay claim to that dubious honor? I can't think of anyone, including people on Fox. So yes, people can be inspired by any outlet, but the only one so far that has done it has been Beck.

So if I take something you say and run with it to the extreme, you should be held accountable? Not allowed to post on the forums maybe?
People don't have to listen or watch anything. I'm not trying defend Beck (b/c quite frankly I can't stand him), but I'm going to put responsibility on him for the crazed actions of another.
Beck didn't tell him to do it, Beck wasn't involved in the planning, Beck didn't even know about it. He says what he says and whether is bull shit or not, doesn't mean he should be kicked off the air b/c someone was stupid and plotted a terrorist attack.
But enough about Beck I guess, since this is a thread about garbage collection. Might make an interesting thread of its own though.

Re: I wish this was a sad parody...
I'm not saying Beck made this guy do it, but would he have attempted to do this if not for Beck? Doubt it. No one knew what the Tides Foundation was before Beck started smearing them. So I'm not saying Beck is responsible for the guy's actions, but his slander definitely was a cause for them. He is drumming up false charges and then trying to scare people, and that is inciting people to commit violence. Like I said, no one knew anything about Tides before Beck started going nuts on his chalkboard, so why else would this guy target this specific group? Beck's anti-Semitic, slanderous, lie-filled "exposé" of George Soros this week seriously makes me fear for Soros' life, and there is precedent to believe some nut might try and take it to that level because of this.

Even still, you can't take someone off the air b/c a nutjob said "I did it b/c of ________________"
What if I took Obama's "ass kicking" comments about BP and the spill to heart and started plots to blow up BP shit....should we kick him off the air too? Of course not.
I understand what you're saying, but I'm not about to kick anyone off TV or the radio waves b/c of a lunatic.
