The 2022 World Cup is going to be horrible unless FIFA really pushes on Qatar to lax their laws. Dry country, horrible press freedoms, hatred of Gays and Women, dislike of Jews, etc. And thats not even getting into the infrastructure question (how the hell are they going to host basically double their entire population, in one city?).

Anyone who watches Football (American), MMA, or wrestling has 0 reason to be calling soccer "gay."
