usually if I want to make sure someone can't brute my pw, I just make it at least 10 char long with no identifiable words. creating passwords with things you can identify help for memory (if that makes sense). like: WRo9 (just a short one so I don't have to do much thinking), or Wayne Rooney 9 (I'd never use rooney in a pw unless I wanted to make sure no-one would ever guess it).
My school one is long, but using methods like above, I never forget it.

I read a security article a while back that suggested that having your password policy too complex actually resulted in less security because your users would make the passwords shapes on the keyboard or too easy to remember. It was a very interesting article on the psycology of passwords. I will try and get a link up for it.
