    Actually, the active component in oregano is carvacrol. Wonderful isn't it? Carvacrol works best at high potency such as in oil of oregano.

    Hamburgers: rare (most burger places make rare medium anyways) to medium rare
    Steaks: rare to medium rare

    I'll just add a touch of oregano to my steak tar tar and all will be fantastic!

    Rare for steaks, mid rare for burgers (since they tend to fall apart at rare ;-))
