So, how would you go about reducing the deficit? I'm asking because it seems like neither side (Rs or Ds) wants to get specific about budget cuts, budget efficiency, taxes, etc. Well, other than the silly notion of going on without increasing taxes.
I rather liked the NYTimes minigame where you got to try and balance the budget. Let's see what people have to say.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Reducing the Deficit
interesting but ultimately pointless. None of them have the balls to do anything about it, or the teeth to even try. The only thing we'll see is 'Their cuts don't go far enough." and that will be the sum total. Pretty slides and graphics with huge red slashes that can be interpreted by either side as either good or bad for their side, rinse repeat rehash ad nauseum.

Step 1, focus on the states and territories within our borders FIRST. If Iraq and Iran want to kill each other let them. Same with NK and SK. We do not need to be the saviors of the world because in most cases when we try we piss off more people than we please. Bringing all of our military force home would save money on fuel and transportation, and allow us to use military force to secure our borders (damn Canadians).

That is the problem. My best guess is about 1/3 of of voters are hard line Dems, 1/3 are hard line Reps, and 1/3 are either fuck the establishment, or vote based on how their underwear fit today. That means those middle third get pissed at the Reps in office and vote Dem, then get pissed at the Dems in the office and vote Rep, so we ride the teeter totter every 2-4 years. We need a revamp of the system, not just the components of the system.

Re: Reducing the Deficit
I posted this another thread that I would cut the military budget in half. We would save $350 billion per year. Our military is bloated and un-necessarily too big.

That's just the start but I can think of other meaningful cuts and revenue generators that wouldn't just be for show.
