Costly: Ashley Payne, 24, posed for this picture while travelling around Europe in the summer of 2009. It was later spotted on her Facebook page with a pint of beer in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, the worst thing you could accuse Ashley Payne of is mixing her drink.

But this happy holiday picture has cost the high school teacher her job after a parent spotted it on Facebook - and complained.

The picture was taken while travelling around Europe in the summer of 2009.

But Miss Payne, 24, was shocked when she was summoned to the principal's office at Apalachee High School, in Winder, Georgia, and offered an ultimatum.

She told CBS News: 'He just asked me, "Do you have a Facebook page?"

'And you know, I'm confused as to why I am being asked this, but I said, "Yes", and he said, "Do you have any pictures of yourself up there with alcohol?"'

He then offered her an option: resign or be suspended.
She chose to resign.

Really? I had teachers show up monday morning and say they were hung over so we weren't doin shit in class. This was during the summer? Yeah that is some bullshit. Nothing indecent or illegal, teachers have lives and her profile was set as private.

There has to be more to the story than that. A teacher's union wouldn't stand for something like that...

Also for anyone that has facebook: WHY WOULD YOU EVER ALLOW YOUR INFO AND PICS TO BE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC?!?! Especially if youre a teacher...

I think I can take this:

On the one hand, being fired for having a pic of yourself, a consenting adult, enjoying some alcoholic beverages in europe is pretty fucking stupid on the school's part.

On the flip side is that, this kinda stuff happens a lot, people getting dinged at work by images they carelessly posted on Facebook, so it's pretty fucking stupid to post pics of this nature knowing that some might not take them to be as innocent as they look, resulting in you getting in trouble for it.

Her face book page sgould have nothing to do with her employment much less a picture from a vacation and you never quit a job over something like this. You always let them fire you and take it from there.

Well they were going to suspend her, which I think is the way to get around that. Depends on whats in her contract, but it was most likely suspension without pay.
