First, I was insinuating that colored people are the only ones getting government handouts, so glad someone picked up on it. /sarcasm Second, funny how I am told by many that I should oppose benefits for large corporations since I don't own one, and that I should support benefits for the poor even though I don't receive those either. Third, I really wish we could have even one topic in this section of the forums that we didn't have a bunch of people showing that their asshole is bigger than their whole ass. Fourth, I don't have all the answers either, but based on everything I have witnessed in my 35 years I think I would rather be in America than just about anywhere other than Belize. My goal is to make a couple million, then retire like a king there.

The thing with a republic (a true democracy would never work in practice by the way), it is promoted as the best, because all the other forms have, so far, proven to be majorly flawed. Republics are quite flawed as well, but the flaws aren't as bad compared to other forms. Lets be honest, on paper the whole US (and other countries) government seems pretty iffy, but in practice it has worked better then the more "model/ideal" paper government ideas.
Personally, on paper, Communism and Socialism sound good, but never work in real-life. My personal feelings on that, especially with communism, is its comes down to the fact that people like the idea of being equal, but in practice they really want to be more equal then the other people. There are people willing to be the water carriers though (I'd bet in any business you can find them, the people who don't want to be the managerment etc), but unless everyone is willing to be a water-carrier, you'll going to end up with 2 groups: The water-carriers, and the playmakers (yes I'm, in a way stealing this from soccer).

I agree, people are stupid and will always be stupid. In-fact the average IQ seems to be dropping every day.

I would doubt that any stupider as a group now than we have been throughout history. We whitewash the past, but people pulled some pretty monumentally stupid things then too. That said, yes, I think that people are pretty stupid, maybe too stupid to govern themselves. I think that our current society has gotten to the level that it's at by the work of its rare geniuses, dragging the rest of humanity along with them. Our government was actually designed with the stupidity of the average person in mind, and had some protections built in - for example, the president wasn't really supposed to be as powerful as he has become in the last century.
