New yorker Scientology Article

One of the things that separates Scientology from other cults is its size. Most cults withdraw and hide form the outside world deliberately to protect itself. Once a cult reaches institution status, however, it uses bullying tactics others don't, probably because it feels it has to to protect itself from the outside world. This article is full of examples of Scientology doing this, but it gets far worse. They're known to send black suited men to the houses of people badmouthing them to press.
There's a church in Nashville that has started using very similar tactics called Remnant Fellowship. It was started by Gwen Shamblin who has called herself a prophetess and demands total control over her members to the point of starvation.
