Re: About time? I think so...
War, I am not sure that death was saying that it was time out in and of itself. I know that I wasn't saying that. I use timeout in my home as well. That is the first level so to speak. If that fails to reach them, I do not simply "try it again" though. There will be a course correction and it has come to spanking before, and I am under no illusions that it will again in the future (I just like to hope that it's a ways off).
My complaint with the "timeout method" (or perhaps rather those who espouse its use) is that generally "Little Johnny" never gets anything more than timeout and once that fails to work a few times then the 'rents give up. At that point Little Johnny is unhinged and will remain so until someone/thing (generally life's negative consequences) crashes down around him and boxes his ears.
There is no silver bullet to child raising (and those who have children know this) and so the people that rely/preach a single approach are only fooling themselves (and raising future delinquents and/or bad parents just like themselves - and please note that bad parents can be good people, just sucky parents - not everyone is able to handle it).

Re: About time? I think so...
I would say there is a time and place. Is it a cure all and the means you should only use? I would say no but if the talking has not been effective then its time to raise the bar. I'll also add it isn't about cause damage or even pain. In most cases its just the fact that it happened that can sway bad behavior. I hate to say it but its alot like raising a dog. Sometimes all it takes is a look or one word to put and end to something but everyonce in a while you got to get them a little wack to know that its unacceptable.

It makes me wonder how I would have turned out with Deathgod or Alundil as parents, parents who would only use physical force when necessary and not just because they had a bad day and wanted to vent their anger. I wonder if I still would have been a schizophrenic or had depression? Still, if I had never developed those I would have never have discovered physics. So, I guess there is one upside to something that has cost me friends and thousands of dollars.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Re: About time? I think so...
Well having a bad day does not give anyone an excuse to lay a hand on anyone else as a 50 or 60 year old man once found out when he grabbed me. Venting anger is a good thing but if you dont how to channel it then it can be a dangerous situation. I have bad days and plenty of times i need to get aggression out but thats why i have my heavy bag and my bowflex. Man you would have been the shit with me as a dad. lol i couldn't just let that go by without saying anything.
