    He will be made an example out of because he is enlisted and this is high profile. If he had a commission, he would have gotten a slap on the wrist. I have seen, in my work, an O6 do just as bad and instead of the O6 getting in trouble, we had a change in policy.

    This type of spillage happens all the time, just not on such a grand scale. Once we had a chappy send home some stuff from SIPR to his Yahoo mail, another time we had a guy send out screencaps to some contractor's regular e-mail from SIPR and so on and so forth. And that is just the stuff I have seen in my time working on DoD networks. The difference for this guy and those guys was volume and intent. And so he will be made an example of...

    The scale of it is what made it a big deal. Even the government lets shit slide but this was well beyond a mistake or a misjudgement. The scale of it alone indicates his intent was to do harm and thats why he will be made an example of.
