Do you think J. Edgar Hoover never coerced a congressman?

Do you think the CIA has never done anything illegal or hidden anything from congressional oversight?

Do you think the NSA in cooperation with telecom corporations didn't perform wide-spread and illegal wiretapping? Or that that Congress didn't breathe a huge sigh of relief as they passed legislation exempting anyone from ever being held to account for it?

Do you recall that the Attorney General of the USA told Congress that there was no explicit right to habeas corpus, that the executive was at their discretion to suspend it, and supported that position with an argument that effectively puts the entire Bill of Rights in the same place?

I think the concentration of all that power would be catastrophic.

Hmm. The above sounds a little strident. I'm not a "there out to get us!" sort of person. But I do think that the history on the matter - all the way back to Thucydides - is clear.

Oh im not saying that they have not or wont break the very laws they are suppose to enforce in the future. My point is it will be no worse then it currently is. You will always have coruption to some extent i just dont think it will get worse by joining those agencies.
