03-11-11, 01:58 AM #18.9 Earthquake near Japan
watching the news right now, as they are showing the water sweeping through Japan and supposedly their is a Tsunami warning in effect for Hawaii and West coast of the U.S.
There was a 7.4 aftershock about 30 minutes later as well, and apparently 7-10 6.0+ aftershocked since this quake.
An 8.9 is a massive Earthquake (if you didn't know), from what I could find, it would put it as one of the top 5 earthquakes since 2004 (of them, the 2004 earthquake outside Indonesia was the most recent "big one" at 9.0).
Hopefully most people are okay, and nothing happens due to the aftershocks to create a massive death/major hazard. If you are near Hawaii or U.S. West coast, try to say safe and hopefully nothing comes out of the Tsunami warning.
EDIT: They just said the wave that swept through part of Japan, had the power of a Jet engineLast edited by Red_Lizard2; 03-11-11 at 02:00 AM.

The good thing (if there can be one in a earthquake) is it at least happened in an area that should be built well enough that there shouldn't be situations as bad as we saw in Haiti. The Tsunami is/was one of the massive massive dangers though (apparently it was a 13 foot wave)

Re: 8.9 Earthquake near Japan
Well, it's currently 4:06am in northern California and my home is in a tsunami warning zone. I had to rush out of my house and get to a place on higher ground. The tsunami is supposed to hit my home in around two and a half hours. I'm currently at a hotel just hoping my house doesn't get swept away. My computer is still there.
