Re: Obama on Standardized Testing
No child left behind has effectively crippled the education system in this country, thank god i graduated high school before it was ever passed. It is a novel idea when you think about it, but making it so that a school's funding is directly related to the test performance of the students at that school is bullshit. They have officially made education a system in which the test scores determine every thing for a school, and things like graduation rates, student enrollment and attendance are pushed aside for favorable test scores. The sad thing is that teachers at some schools are told only to teach the test material and make sure the students know how to take the test as opposed to actual learning. Whats really bothersome is that teachers in some of the school districts that do this want to get paid more for teaching less, and that is crippling the school systems as well. Education in this country needs a serious overhaul because the current system is nothing short of a joke.

Re: Obama on Standardized Testing
Hmmm, reading all of this makes me thankful my parents worked their asses off so my two sisters and I could go to private school....b/c Lord knows the public system where I lived was awful.
Even though I haven't been a part of the public education system, I do agree with whoever said the learning shouldn't stop when you leave campus. The parents need to get involved a least a little bit. If not for my mom, I would have done terribly all the way through middle school.
