Re: Pawlenty tax plan.
Ignorance.
There have been reasons given why no such data exists in a reliable format. Go to the grocery store and convince yourself. I have a guy at my full time job that is always bringing food to share because he has food stamps. He is driving a suburban with over $2500 worth of tires and wheels on it.
Priorities are so out of whack in this country, we have so much, "I want, I want." If your hard up, you need to focus on using your aid to improve your life in a real way. On the fire department I personally have responded to houses that had dirt floors and big screen TVs. Also,I had a couple with three kids come in to buy a $2000 TV with their income tax refund. The couple didnt have a full set of teeth between them and the kids were just as bad. Universal health care and taxing the rich and giving to the poor all sound great. But it wont do any good unless we educate people. I say make a big investment in education. And personally I think one of our biggest areas of trouble is people's ability to do math. I'm not talking anything complex. Just simple multiplication and addition and dividing. Not to mention basic geometry and algebra. I see it working in manufacturing and I see it in retail. Perhaps thats the problem, people cant add so they spend without thinking.

Ignorance? I've been to grocery stores in poor areas countless times and have yet to see what you're describing. If people, thousands of people, are really seeing this everywhere they go, then they need to make a storm about it and get something done. I would think I would see this living in one of the towns with the most people living below the poverty line in the state of Louisiana.
I do agree that education should be a priority, but you can blame the government for defunding that and for the "No child left behind" act.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

And if you want people to be able to pull statisitcs, I'm sure chains like Walmart, Target, Tom Thumb, etc. can provide you a cross list of people purchasing things they don't need like booze and cigarettes with food stamps.

You can't buy booze and cigarettes with food stamps, and when you buy said things with cash how exactly do you tie said purchase with the purchase right before or after it on food stamps. As I said, the only way to get the information is to ask the source. If you were on welfare, food stamps, or some other government handout would YOU tell someone taking a survey that you made $XK on the side last year, that you drive an SUV with 24s, or that you spend as much on leisure as you do on the necessities that the government is providing each month? Get a fucking clue.

FAIR: FAIR estimates there are 13 million illegal aliens
It is difficult to have an exact figure because the illegal nature of their presence prevents any enumeration
