07-12-11, 12:58 AM #1News of the World (and another) phone "hacking" scandal
Didn't see anyone who had posted a thing about this yet shocking. The British tabloid News of the World closed down this past weekend after being implicated in a massive scandal involving them getting into peoples voicemails. There is an American connection to this I'll get to in a bit. So far, reports have surfaced about them trying to get into the voicemail of 7/7 victim family members, They also trying to get into ones of relatives of dead UK soldiers as well as trying to buy contact information on the royal family.
Further they there in the voicemail of 13 year old girl who was missing and even DELETED some of them to make room for more, which the family thought was the girl doing it (and thus had hope). She was later found dead. There are allegations they broke into the voice-mail of the father of two 10 year girls that were murdered as well.
The article discusses how they were doing it, and why I'm not willing to really call it hacking.
Lastly, what is the American connection? Well News of the World is (well was, now that is shut down) by News Corp, Rupert Murdoch's company (who also own: The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, The Times (UK), The Sun, Sky (uk television), and of course all the Fox stuff (including Fox News)). Another one of his UK companies may of gotten into the voice-mail of a former British PM as well, its the 2nd link.
