Re: Should government control electricy?
Government for the people. I am for it; healthcare and education next!
I'd be willing fork out more taxes if they go so far as to make it all universal ... and adjust some other things.
As far as efficiency goes, it is only profitable to make it efficient in terms of generating profit for your share holders; privatization does not necessarily mean efficiency for the consumer or the environment. Especially on something like electricity, roads, and other infrastructure and emergency services where there is not room (in terms of resource efficiency) for multiple businesses to actually compete. In those cases I am all for government controlled distribution.

07-19-11, 05:48 PM #14Then the government should take over land lines, then cell service, then milk, then...
In Texas we have deregulation. One company owns and manages the lines while another, of your choice, delivers the actual electricity to your home.
As for the cost going up guess what, that new truck costs you more than it did 10 years ago too. Welcome to the wonderful world of economics. If you truly want to stick it to them go throw a couple of solar panels on your roof. With enough of them the electric company can pay you to pump juice back into the grid.
Fuck bigger government, they can't even figure out how to spend the money they don't have, let's not give them more to screw up.

07-19-11, 11:10 PM #19According to the EIA the cost per kwh went up from 11.67 to 11.73 in Florida in the last year. Yes, that seems like 300%.
And to Wicked, you want a monopoly, just one controlled by politicians. I already stated that I have, and still support, deregulation.
