Re: Rick Perry is a raging idiot.
Could their be another scientific method that we do not know about that can be used to determine that people do have souls and that their are different levels of consciousness? Couldn't we be operating in ignorance right now? Your assuming that are current scientific methods and our intelligent today is correct. As I said before, I think we'll have much different answers 2,000 years from now.

Re: Rick Perry is a raging idiot.
I agree with that, that is why I believe in science. I think some people are getting confused as to what I'm arguing. I believe in evolution, I'm arguing that I think it may be possible that there are different levels of consciousness after we leave our body (which most religions believe).

All that the scientific method is is an objective system for testing and answering questions with as little external noise as possible. There's really very little to it. Could we develop a better method of gathering information? Sure, but we don't have one yet. We have one method, and it's been very successful in explaining things that we used to think were magical, supernatural, etc.

Chapter 17:Eratosthenes
The dark ages kinda screwed up man kinds scientific progress. What was the dominate power structure then? Your right trigger, the modern scientific method is relatively new structure.
The problem is that beliefs are based on personal views and feelings that do not have proof or a way to disprove them. You don't have to believe in science or natural causes, they just happen. An all important aspect of a scientific theory is being able to predict the future. You throw a ball, you can calculate where it will land using the Theory of Gravity. Now, you take the Theory of Evolution and predict how organisms will change. MRSA anyone?
Personal note, if every single organism was designed, why be so inefficient? Did the designer get bored and just ctr+c, ctr+v everything? Another note, we did not evolve from chimpanzees. They are a separate branch and are a modern species, just like humans.
Maybe some all powerful something created the whole infinite universe and created everything so that evolution is what happens. But there is no end plan for evolution (it is very short sighted) and there is no way to show that this whatever being/force is the ultimate cause, just your personal beliefs.
+1 Thorsen
I guess my point is that if Perry is willing to ignore all the evidence of evolution for some sort of political gains, what else is he willing to ignore that will affect his other policies? Not just scientific items either.Last edited by Zelmon; 08-24-11 at 02:47 PM.

Re: Rick Perry is a raging idiot.
Belief in God and belief in Creationism are not the same thing.
I am a Christian. I believe in God.
I believe humans have misinterpreted the writings in the bible by taking a too literal interpretation.
The bible does not mention evolution, it also doesn't mention physics. I believe ever action has an equal and opposite reaction, even tho that isn't stated verbatim in the bible.
I read Genesis as a Parable. It is distilling a complicated topic into a digestible and relate-able (sp? is that a word?) story so that it is understandable to the common person. Not a step by step blueprint of exactly how it happened.
Anyone that believes the bible letter for letter, do YOU know how the bible was formed? How it's contents where chosen? Look into the history of it. A group of people long ago looked at MANY ancient writings and decided what did and what did not make the cut. It is the "Word of God" because the Pope said it so "Papal Infallibility" When you peel back the layers of that onion you will really start to understand on a better level.
I believe in God. I believe he is responsible for all the rules and laws on our universe. God created Physics and the universe obeys. God created evolution.
Evolution is God's work in motion.Alundil liked this post

Re: Rick Perry is a raging idiot.
Regardless of the validity of either schools of thought. Faith doesn't make one an idiot until it drives them to such acts ( westborow ).
I for one am a man of faith. I also believe in science , dinosaurs, aliens and evolution both micro and macro. None of those things are mutually exclusive to me. In fact you can't even study the bible and then honestly say you do not believe in evolution it is right there in it. here let me get the quote......For the things of the land were turned into things of the water: and the things that before swam in the water passed upon the land."-Wisdom 19:18
I wish the so called Christians who have never even taken the time to open the good book and study it would please stop spewing the shit your local pastors have fed you and actually learn your faith.
I under stand people like wicked having a negative knee jerk reaction to Christianity. So many of us are just complete idiot's who blindly follow what the man up on stage says and never actually take the time to learn and live the faith.
I don't care that wicked or others don't believe in God. I love them anyway and as long as their willing to be civil in their disagreement with me then I wont have to go all "on ward christian soldier on their ass". LOL
EDIT: glitch this isn't aimed at you I was typing and hit post before I saw your post. But evolution is in the bible. other wise I am in full accord with your sentiments.
