No your just talking about something you dont understand. Your taught to reply with yes sir no sir to officers, respect for rank, and how to use the chain of command. All of which could be confused for being taught manners.

Your also taught how to eat in 30 seconds, how you can throw up by just drinking wtaer, how you can go farther then you think you can, how to kill in multiple ways, how to use anything available as a weapon, how the guy next to you is worth taking that bullet for, and many other things. However not a single one is ever about manners.

I'm sure you've seen full metal jacket, jarhead, heartbreak ridge, and just about any other film similar. Not one time did anyone evcer go over what manners are instilled in troops. Manners should have been learned by the time you got to bootcamp.

However the Marine Corps is its own environment. Your taught how you are the best and ever man that went thru the same ordeal is your equal as a Marine. That being said gives Marines a confidence that no college will ever be able to teach. Its also what gives Marines a reputation as being arrogant but at the same time it gives them that extra bit of courage to not back down from a fight. The train of thought is they cant beat me and i may go down but they're going with me.

Put that many people with the same mentality in the same place and it becomes a competition of whos the biggest baddest fucker in here. Its a competition for everything. Some people love it and others cant wait to get out. Put an outsider in the middle of it and it may come acrossed as obsurd because they may show up at a fart contest where the winner went ahead and shit his pants just to get the win. But trust me its a fuckin blast once things get cookin.


I'll give you a few we use to do just for shits and giggles. We would take chairs and face each other and just start insulting the hell out each other until others declared victory. In japan during the winter we would have hot box contests. Its 20 degrees and you see who can smoke a cigarette the fastest. Seems easy until you actually hot box a marlboro in 20 seconds. Who coud make a tugg (vehicle for pulling jets around) pull the highest wheely. Who could snap rockets together the fastest. That one is a little tricky to exsplain but the warheads have to be screwed to a certain torque value but if you knew how you could whip it just right and get the warhead to snap into position with your hands. Who could drink the most and that was to the point of making yourself throw up just so you could keep drinking. Go ahead and pass out and see what happens. You'll wake up missing an eyebrow, 1 leg has been shaved, and you'll be wearing makeup so you resemble the bitch you are for passing out.

That list could go on and on. So in short manners aren't on the list of things Marines worry about. They dont care about your feeling, dont care if you dont like their conversation, and most certainly dont give a shit about whether someone heard them fart because the odds are they wanted everyone to hear it.

Marines are rude.
