Re: Are people inherently stupid?
Your right they continue to pass that and print it for the millions of marines because its the worlds biggest hoax. If it was just rumored around i would agree with you but in this case its in print and taught in training. Unlike high school your learning is taken very seriously in boot camp. So they arent big fans of jokes.

So it looks like snopes isn't the only site calling this either outdated, or urban legend. Once again, I was never a Marine, so maybe they just have everybody fooled.

Those items are not in the truk of the flagpole. This is a myth. It may be in writing but it is more of a heritage/traditional teaching. ( A test question too )
Also....... I'm a Vet and I do not see anything wrong for someone burning the flag in protest. I know what it stands for to me and that's what matters. You must also look at the side that you could never possibly understand. Other individuals associate negativity with our flag. Perhaps their families were unjustly killed in the name of our flag. Does this not give them the right to protest in such ways as burning the flag?
Is it the burning action of the flag that is wrong? When I was in the military it was said that in order to retire an exhausted flag it should be burned. Is it only wrong to burn the flag during a protest? Why should we create laws to stop burning a Symbol that is not regulated. Any tom dick and harry can produce the american flag, as a matter of fact take a look and see where these flags were made. Look at the flags that hang from car windows, the ones in homes, the ones you buy at the dollar store. Where did they come from?
