So I was watching some show, maybe Gold Rush, and Weed Wars came on next. Needless to say this show might make me change my stance on medicinal, decriminalization, and/or legalization. The people responsible for a dispensary that did 21 million in revenue last year seemed like they would be more likely to sit in their mom's basement pigging out on Cheetos. Their CFO, even though he is a licensed accountant, seemed so stupid. Yes, I know it is a small sample size, but man were most of these people pathetic.

It doesn't really change my mind, at least not yet, but when proponents try to refute the stereotype that all users are dumb, and just sit around laughing with the munchies, then you see a show about the largest medicinal dispensary in the US, and two fo the 3 highest ranking employees are totally the stereotypical stoner it makes you wonder.

I haven't seen this show, but I did happen to come along the documentary/comedy "Super High Me" on Netflix last night. It goes along the same lines at the documentary "Super Size me" in the sense that the comedian, who is a avid Medical MJ user, goes 30 days without smoking and the goes 30 days of smoking pretty much 24/7. During both 30 day periods a series of tests are run, both physical and mental: SAT score, lung capacity, memory, etc.
I always take these documentaries with a grain of salt because like every other source of information out there it is usually bias. For example the doctor that the comedian went to have the tests run had some kind of MJ background on his computer...obviously the viewer could assume that the doctor was pro-MJ. Though that doesn't mean that all the data and information provided is false, but simply shown in a positive light, while a doctor against MJ could probably look at the same tests and point out negatives and bring them up.
The only thing that I see wrong with MJ is that it can make people extremely lazy, but then there are also others who stay very active while high. I agree that it has its medical purposes and should be available to those in need.

It makes me wonder too. It makes me wonder if the producer selected them because they were representative of the group, or because they fit a pre-existing stereotype that suits the audience's desires and/or because business is boring but stoners are funny. It makes me wonder if the director encouraged or discouraged some sorts of behaviour. It makes me wonder if the editors piece together each show with an eye to academic and historical depiction, or with an eye towards entertainment value.
Then I stop wondering those things, and start wondering why anyone thinks there's any reality in reality shows.

Trust me, I don't feel you get the whole truth from reality shows, but we are talking about the CFO, not some lacky, and some of the episodes were him preparing an argument against a new tax being due as a lump sum in advance, and my 11 year old could have handled it better. And I would guess the producers picked them because, as I said, they are the LARGEST dispensary in America.

I don't think you're some dupe, so I hope you didn't take offence.
While I agree that reality shows don't give you the whole truth, I also think it's worse than something which only gives you part of the truth. I think they actively distort, obfuscate, and plain ol' make shit up.
They push "characters" into conflict when there is none. They get them to wear clothes they wouldn't normally wear (if they're trying to portray someone as a trashy ho, they'll make that happen), and get them to say things they wouldn't ordinarily say.
In case you can't tell, I'm not such a fan of the genre. :)

No offense taken. I could see if they picked some random no names just to highlight the "problems". I could even understand if they only showed them out of the office partying. However, they showed them at work, and making important business decisions, and they still looked like fools. I mean the tax implication was for over a million dollars. It's not like they were making a decision on a dime bag or something.
