Yes, I did. If something has to be cut, it should be that. I also never said to just stop spending that money, though. Some could be redirected to, say, universities to fund more research. Probably be more efficient that way, too.
Yes those clearer pictures would help imensly. Like seeing aliens on a nude beach would tell us everything we need to know. Pictures aren't going to tell us shit other then water liquid, frozen or non exsistant. They have done nothing to help us for any planet here so odds are they wont do shit for ones 600 light years away.

Oh no sir you dont get to back pedal like that. Those discussion were to reduce the deficite. Stop spending in one to spend it somewhere else doesnt equal saving a damn dime.

Or, instead of some grand, cooked-up conspiracy, it might be just because the guy is a crackpot and wrong...

It's not just "about getting prettier picture".... We can learn A LOT just by analyzing the light and radiation emitted by a celestial object.

I'm not backpedaling. I plainly said if something has to be cut, it should be that. I made that very clear. But I've never been one of those "OMG, the deficit is the worst thing in the world!" people, and would not mind seeing SOME of that money redirected towards research. Reading comprehension, my friend.

Mass, volume, temperature, surfacing pressure, composition... just to name a few characteristics that would define a planet as inhabitable or not, and which we take in consideration before sending men in space.

wikipedia is your friend. Just check any planet in our local solar system and find out all we managed to discover about em so far.
Well seeing as you need a probe to get any of that information then its barely worth discussing. The pluto probe is the fastest one we have done so far at 13 miles per second. Thats 46800 mph. Speed of light is 186282 per second. Thats 670615200 mph. Thats 5,665,357,209,600 miles per year. In one year the probe can go 395,366,400 miles. So in a mear 8,597,630 years one can land there.

Yeah good idea lets launch one now.

That's the whole point I was trying to make. For now, it's pointless to even consider making such a trip, even with an inhabited vessel. For this reason we shouldn't stop studying those planets from our comfy little home, and develop new and better ways to observe those planets and find out what are their proprieties without having to send probes. If someday we have the technology to make such a trip in less than 2000 years, then it'll be worth our time.

See but were thinking in oposite directions. You simply can not study it. With current tech its impossible to study. All we can do is take a picture. Invest the money in tech to make something that can actually make the trip. Then use that tech to study it whether it be manned or unmanned probes.

And aside from taking a ss what do we know? What will we know in the next 50 to 100 years from those pictures? Not a damn thing. Tech isnt going to take leaps and bounds creating a better camera. Put those people on creating tech for something usefull. Then naybe in 20 or 50 years we can make the trip to mars in a week or month. Thats usefull tech.
