Disrespect towards the president
I was at the airport today, and saw these two redneck douchebags with a stand set up to hate on Obama. They had pictures of Obama with the Hitler mustache, and signs saying things like "OBAMA NEEDS THERAPY" and "OBAMA IS A MUSLIM COMMUNIST"
I seriously wanted to just go and rip up their signs.
Listen, I don't care how much you hate the president, he's still your president. You still owe him the respect that his title deserves. I wasn't a huge fan of Bush, but it would disgust me equally to see people put Hitler mustaches on him and say rude things about him. What gives you the right to be so hateful towards another human being? I went up and talked with them a bit, and they didn't know a single thing that he's actually done during his presidency. They have no basis for hating Obama, they just wanted someone to hate.
He seems like a nice guy from my experiences with him. He is a bit quiet though.[/]

Re: Disrespect towards the president
I'm not arguing that they shouldn't be allowed to say it, I'm arguing that people should really treat our president with respect. Of course they have the right not to, but it just makes me angry that they hate the president so much that they dedicate their time to spreading hatred for him. Seriously, they should just get a life.
I wasn't aware of that... another equally disgusting concept.Last edited by Knee of Justice; 12-28-11 at 10:52 PM.

Re: Disrespect towards the president
Ya but not everything done during a presidents term in office is done by him. Alot of it is congress, some of it is encouraged by the president but whats to say someone else wouldnt have pushed for it if he didnt. You dont see many people saying fuck bush for the Patriot act, and that other one, whatever its called.
What really gets me is how everything gets turned into a political bitchfest when it has nothing to do with politics. Cant stand that crap.
Looks like obamas going to get elected again because so far the republican candidates all seem to be fucking retarded.

Re: Disrespect towards the president
This is the way our "Republic" works between the Executive and Legislative Branches. Always has and always will.
Sure, a lot of it is Congress. Some of that is Congress on behalf of the President and the rest is Congress on behalf of themselves or their donors, I mean lobbyists, I mean constituents.
LOL - sorry but where were you during the previous Bush Administration's two terms (and most of the Obama Administration term). Bush, right or wrong, has been the whipping boy for over a decade now.
To some, everything is politics. But bitching about bitching is bitching too (politically speaking). To paraphrase some others on this forum, "Where were your complaints about the Bush Bashing? Everything can't be his fault either. Congress had to have some influence as well."
Just saying.
This is a scary possibility. As many (all?) of the other Candidates attempting to run thus far are not very compelling.
We need more than two parties, but even more than that we need to eliminate campaign donations. It ought to be a set amount per candidate based on per capita tax dollars. Give them free airtime on local network channels and free advertising on local papers (allow the networks and papers to write that revenue loss off as charitable or public/community service). Institute term limits and take the money out of the political machine and you reduce, greatly, the incentives to become a lifelong "publicleechservant".

Re: Disrespect towards the president
Totally agree.
There are lots of remedies.
Financial: You suck. I'm not buying your stuff.
Legal (criminal): You suck. You're being arrested and may go to jail.
Legal (civil): You suck. I'm suing and you will be liable for a variety of financial damages.
Social: You suck. What you say is wrong, and the way you say it is worse. Your conduct is drastically out of proportion to the problem you perceive. What you do makes all of us worse off. If someone asked, I might defend your right to say what you're saying - but your comeuppance is on the way, and I will laugh my ass off when you're exposed for the stupid, petty, screeching asshole you are.
Cheers,

Re: Disrespect towards the president
I agree with those points. However, as life (or the stupidity present therein) has shown;
People lack the intestinal fortitude to make a meaningful boycott stick. It takes the hyperbolic equivalent of "murder" for that to incense people enough to stop buying crap.
The legal system here, while better than a great many other places, is still prone to corruption among the enforcers and the jurists. Then if you can get past that, there is the reality that the highest paid defense will generally win (extreme cases not withstanding). Top that off with the very real "reality" that the citizens who will act as jury are all too often not peers, incompetent, apathetic, uneducated or as is often the case a combo of all. No one really trusts the legal system to be "fair". It is a snake. You know it's there, you can hear the rattles, you know it'll bite you if you get too close, but you want to keep it cause it occasionally kills the rodents in the yard.
Socially, we as a whole, have lost the wherewithal (or gumption, or balls) to "man up and tell it like it is" for fear of offending someone. So while your point is true in that it is possible to say those things, and certainly to think those things, the reality is that those things are rarely if ever uttered. So their impact is lost/meaningless.
