It's because you're not a successful doctor. (Not joking). They'll come around though if they see that you make her happy.
Oh, and the biggest problem with Indian parents if you're not their child is how they cook really good food for you and give you lots of delicious Indian candies and expect you to eat them all. It was a cruel life growing up with Indian friends, I tell you.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Asian parents help...
My friend's girlfriend is Vietnamese (second gen) and he has mentioned some of the things here. Her brother is his best friend and the mom likes him. Her dad doesn't speak a lot of English and barely acknowledges him when they are around. I hear he has been getting better. From what his girlfriend said the father had wanted her to be with a Vietnamese guy. They are happy and don't let it bother them.
All you can do is be yourself and show that you will treat her right. I think doing things like learning customs and languages should not be forced. While winning the girlfriends father is great he should respect you also.

This is true. My parents love to make giant pots of curry when I'm home and some friends come to the house. It's hilarious because white people can simply not handle the spice, asians do a little better but it's still not great. The thing is, they all love it so they eat it and then proceed to chug a bunch of water.

A friend of mine uses Language Learning with Livemocha | Learn a Language Online - Free! to learn multiple languages, including Chinese. It's kinda like Rosetta, but you deal with live person, email exchange, and uses mic recording. It's something like $10/month.
