Re: OK who knows about boats?
Most likely it will sink with a 120 on it. Rated HP is much more than just what the hull will handle at speed. It also has to do with weight ratio. I would suspect that all would be good until you come off plane and then you would wash out over the bow.
You are a gear head. Tinker with what you got and see if you can get the 70 to run right. Putting any more than $500 in it and you are pissing money away and I mean that in the nicest way possible.
Get into the motor and I am happy to help. Not an expert but pretty good at working on OB's.

Well since he's going off the 'its free' mentality, I would just say invest in a life preserver and a water-proof pocket for your cell phone.
btw, do boats have titles like cars or do you just sell them off all willy-nilly? I was thinking if the boat did indeed sink and leak fluids into the water, would the owner be liable?

07-31-12, 12:32 AM #23Old school tri.. They can be fun, but better river runners as the hull just isnt designed for cutting through heavy chop.
70hp on that little boat should do 35-40mph. I had a 15 ft just like that growing up with a 70hp Evinrude. It was a blast.
That boat looks like a headache. An old boat can be just as nice as a new boat if was well taken care of. It could be a lot of fun if you put a few months into it. Realistically, you could just drop $1500 into a way better boat that would be on the water running tomorrow.
I know it is tough because you dont want to spend anything, but getting that boat seaworthy enough for the gulf would cost much more.

Re: OK who knows about boats?
Your already twice the cost i was willing to pay to get it going. I figure fix any cracks with fiberglass of which i only found the one between revits for the bumper rail, through some paint on it, tune it, and give it a kill switch for shut downs. If it floats great. If it sinks it gives me a new story.
I think you guys have made my wife happy though. She was scared to death i was going to find a way to put my 400 sb chevy in it just to see if it can skip like a rock. This is just a pos i figured i could tinker with.
@ enf Already have the phone. I know aside from fuel there aren't many fluids to a boat this size and oddly enough the guy took the fuel tank out. My plan was a 5 gallon tank for now just to see what happens. I refuse to test it in a lake around here though. I would rather play with sharks then alligators getting back to shore. Not that either are fun.

Actually now that i think about enf i see nothing wrong with tethering it to my truck and letting it sit in the water just to see what happens. Its not a heavy boat so if it sinks i can drag it back out and scrap the fucker. I would feel a bit better knowing its not going to fuck someone elses shit up.

I like purple. I'm not one that runs in the pack for things. I like my stuff to be different when i build it or mod it. I use plum purple on every engine i have ever built for myself or anyone else. Its say Bills been here just as much as if i put my signature on it. Plus i've seen some real nice purple flames.

lol...what I meant was...anytime anyone wants to put flames on something, it seems like they always want to make the flames some weird ass color...rather than the classic rod colors.
That looks badass...and you still get some purple at the back.
Not sure how it would look on a boat, though.
