OK who knows about boats?
A buddy of mines neighbor was getting rid of this boat. I figured its free, it runs, and at the very least it makes a good object to paint before i do my car. Now when i say it runs lol i mean it does run but he has it rigged. You actually have to choke the engine out to get it to shut off. I figure no big deal i can fix that easy. Its a 15 ft bonita. I do remember bonito boats being made here but they went out of business about the same time i went in the corps.
So i have a couple questions if anyone can answer them. First it says its a 70 hp on the tag. Does that mean i cant put a 120 on it for the hell of it? I mean it does say motorS. Will it do ok in salt water? Im not planning on cruising to the bahamas or anything just fishing a bit off shore. Probably no more then a half mile out. I get bored quick so no point in going out to far. I heard there are fresh water designs and salt water but i dont know shit about boats.
Now before you look at the pics remember it was free and i've already ripped the interior out. Gonna put some new hand made seats in and some new carpet. Then do some motor work and a bit of fiberglass. Luckily being a floor guy and a mechanic so i can do all that shit myself. I think shes gonna be black with purple flames. Never been a fan of white vehicles for any role. I figure its free why the hell not take it.

Re: OK who knows about boats?
The boat is rated for a 70HP motor. I wouldnt suggest tossing on a 120 cuz that seems like a bit too much power for that boat. It would be fun as hell, but I dont know if the rear could handle the additional weight of a 120 motor, or the extra torque it will generate.

So i would have to sure up the ass end to make it work? I just want to see the little bastard skipping waves. Altho my luck it'll break in half. Just gonna have to stay close to shore. I dont mind taking a cab back to my truck but i aint swimmin it.

Re: OK who knows about boats?
120 would be a bit much.....
It's not just the weight and the torque (although those are more than enough reason not to), but the hull design. You would most likely be slower with a 120 than you would with a 70. With the added weight in the rear, it wouldn't get up on plane properly, and you would just be putting horsepower into pushing water.
Get an old Merc 70 for it, and just build the shit out of it.
